Girls in Vinton Girl Scout Troop 94 held their second annual Father-Daughter Dance on February 25 in the fellowship hall at Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church.

The girls were dressed in beautiful party clothes for the occasion, dancing with dads, grand-dads, Scout leaders, and one another throughout the evening. There were some mothers, grandmothers, and siblings on hand as well.

DJ Troy Ham kept the music playing. The event was open to the community at large, not just Scouts, and once again was a memorable and poignant occasion.

The troop has grown from just a handful of girls when it was formed in September 2013 to 31 girls currently, accepting girls ranging in age from Pearl (Pre-K-kindergarten) to Ambassadors in high school.

Stefanie Hawkins is the Scout leader. The troop meets in several rooms at Thrasher Memorial on Thursday nights.

In recent weeks, they have been busy selling over 5,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies during the annual fundraiser.

There are many Scouting events coming up for Troop 94, including Scout Sunday at Thrasher on March 12 with breakfast and a cookie booth.

Brownies will have a sleepover at the Science Museum in downtown Roanoke on March 17-18, working on their Home Scientist badges. Juniors will have a sleepover on April 7-8 at the museum and earn Musician Badges by making instruments and then performing.

Saturday, April 8, is Scout Day at the D-Day Memorial. Girls can earn a National D-Day Memorial patch by studying World War II artifacts and talking with a World War II veteran. That is followed by their Spring Camping trip to Camp Icimani, located off Yellow Mountain Road in Roanoke County, and a trip to the Danville Science Center.

The annual Girl Scouts Bridging Ceremony and banquet is scheduled for June 3.
