Capt. Fabricio Drumond has been appointed Deputy Chief of Police of the Vinton Police Department. He will be responsible for assisting in the overall administration of the department to include directing departmental operations, overseeing administrative services, and facilitating community outreach programs.

Drumond is a native of Brazil. He, along with his family, moved to the United States in 1990 when he was 8 years old, settling in the Boston, Mass., area where he graduated from Maynard High School.

Upon graduation, Drumond enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and was sent to Marine Recruit Depot Parris Island, and then attended the School of Infantry where he became an Assault man. He was ultimately stationed in Camp Lejeune, N.C.; however, he spent most of his time deployed overseas.

Drumond achieved the rank of sergeant while in the Marine Corps. He deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, Djibouti and Cuba during his service. He is fluent in Portuguese, Italian, and Spanish.

At the end of his enlistment, he joined the Roanoke City Police Department, where he served as a patrolman.

Drumond came to the Town of Vinton in December of 2009 where he has served as a patrolman, corporal and sergeant with the department.

He has achieved several awards during his time on the Vinton police force, including Officer of the Year and Leadership Awards voted by his peers. He is an Honor Guard member and in-house instructor where he teaches Vinton officers TASER and Officer Survival. He is also an instructor at Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy where he teaches both recruits and sworn officers.

Drumond’s wife Julianna is a teacher with Roanoke County Schools. He has two step-children, Dakota, a student at George Mason University, and Morgan, a student at Virginia Western.

He is a graduate of Liberty University, and will begin pursuing his master’s degree in the fall.

Capt. Drumond was officially recognized at the Vinton Town Council meeting on February 7.
