VINTON–The Telly Awards has named Mikula-Harris as a Bronze winner in the 35th Annual Telly Awards for two video projects. One is a tourism video titled “Humpback Bridge & Water Recreation” produced for the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce.  The other video promotes a locally-grown food initiative called “Rooted in Appalachia” produced for Appalachian Sustainable Development and Abingdon Convention & Visitors Bureau. With nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries, this is truly an honor.

two awards for video projects in the prestigious 35th Annual Telly Awards Competition. Mikula-Harris is located on Walnut Avenue in Vinton.

One video was shot in the Alleghany Highlands of Virginia, including locations at Douthat State Park, on the Jackson River near Clifton Forge and at historic Humpback Bridge near Covington. The video is part of a campaign called “History over the Water; Good Clean Fun on it,” which promotes the iconic covered bridge as a tourist attraction as well as the abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities on the region’s rivers and lakes.

The award-winning video for “Rooted in Appalachia” follows locally-grown and made products from the farms and vineyards in Washington County near Abingdon to the local Farmers Market and eventually to a chef-prepared meal. The purpose of Rooted in Appalachia is to educate residents and visitors about how agriculture is an indispensable part of the culture of Appalachia. The program encourages consumers to seek out participating restaurants and inns that are committed to serving local products.

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video, and films.  Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.

A prestigious judging panel of over 500 accomplished industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of The Silver Telly Council, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents.

The Silver Council evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work. Entries do not compete against each other but are judged against a high standard of merit.  Less than 10 percent of entries are chosen as winners of the Silver Telly, our highest honor.  Approximately 25 percent  of entries are chosen as winners of the Bronze Telly.

“The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video,” said Linda Day, Executive Director of the Telly Awards. “Mikula-Harris’ accomplishment illustrates their creativity, skill, and dedication to their craft and serves as a testament to great film and video production.”

The creative concepts for both videos were developed by the Mikula-Harris team and supervised by Creative Director David Harris. Sam Dean provided videography and editing for both videos.

“Our team and our clients put a lot of effort into these video projects and we’re very proud that they have been recognized by the Telly Awards,” said Harris, co-founder of the firm.

Mikula-Harris was founded in 1992 by David Mikula and David Harris. The agency specializes in tourism branding and marketing.
